How to make: Natural Washing Up Liquid
An alternative to harsh chemical detergents that was shared to us by Slow Food
A quick and easy method, to cleanse dishes, at home. It also ensures that no nasty residue remain on crockery.
This sustainable alternative will not foam. Instead the natural ingredients combine together to create a simple detergent that will not harm waterways and ecosystems.
Natural detergent
Sustainable washing-up liquid
Prepare 5 mins
Boil 10 mins
Total 15 mins
Ingredients:
- 3 whole lemons – roughly chopped
- 200 g salt
- 150 ml distilled vinegar
- 500 ml water
Method
Add all of the ingredients to the bowl of a food processor or use a stick blender to combine until smooth.
Pour into a large stainless steel saucepan and bring liquid to the boil. Continue to simmer for 15 minutes.
Pour into a sterilised jar and seal.
Directions for use:
Wear gloves to wash up. Measure 125 ml natural washing up liquid and add to a standard washing up bowl ¾ full of hand hot water. Wash as normal and rinse.
